Better than expected. Well done, Lagunitas! To be honest, expectations were low. What business does IPA-crazy, and overall pretty limited genres, Lagunitas have in making a barleywine? But this is a really good standard bearer of the type. I think its good without aging, but if you havent had a lot of barleywine, the hops will likely be a little sharp. Aging it certainly wouldnt hurt but pretty unnecessary and will take away character for when youre in the mood for something with a sharper edge.

A-. In the English style, robust and well balanced. Drank 5-22-2020, Bottled & bought 2017. Aged very well, I think. Too bad didn?t try with a fresh version.

Smooth and full of flavor. The dark rich color is inviting begging you to take a sip. This beer is amazing. Love it.

Beautiful copper color with a large tan head. Slightly hoppy aroma. Tastes of butterscotch, caramel, toffee with a mild fruitiness in the finish. Sticky sweet. Pretty gnarly!

Ok barley wine. Agreed that more aging would help the back end.
