Poured half into glass and half in can. It pours an orangish-light amber that is cloudy with a thin, rapidly diminishing white head of negligible retention and lace. Aroma is better out if the can - as professed - and offers orange, mango, and grapefruit notes that are enticing and of bold citrus depth. Despite its enticing aroma, I had fears of such excess bitterness as to be in drinkable since it does have immensely overt hoppiness. Tastewise, it drinks better from the tulip as it allows a (diminished) sniff alongside the taste, and it remains fruity with pineapple and grapefruit predominating, but without an excessively lingering bitterness allowing for remarkable drinkability. Better as it warms a touch and fairly creamy and feels almost medicinally-thick bodied as it coats the throat. Why not a five? It just lacks the malt backbone I prefer in this style, much as it is nonetheless an amazing beer and it truly shows that a hops-blast need not be bitter beyond comprehension!

Extremely bitter, not for those who are not used to drinking lots of IPA's

Hop heaven. Perfection. Everything I could ever want in a beer. Makes me believe in god and all that is good as if the world was new.

Tried this both from the can and from a snifter. Nice two fingered, foamy white head. Bright orange and incredibly hazy with particles floating all through it. Awesome nose with a big citrusy blast of orange and grapefruit and hops. Taste is great once you get past the initial hop explosion. When I say hoppy, I mean hoppy! This is honestly the most hopped up IPA I have even tried. This will make your lips pucker and ears pop. Great, great IPA. Top 10 yes, number #1 .... No

Fantastic beer! Great piney smell right from the jump. The best thing about this beer is the fullness of the hop taste. It's not caustic like some DIPA's, it's got great balance. Wonderful beer, an absolute must try.

Remember when you were a kid, and you saw your father eating steak? The waiter brought it to the table sizzling hot... The smell intoxicating, he slices into the meat with ease... You watch your father savor that bite almost in ecstasy. The juices of that steak run all over the plate as he slices again and again..... Your mouth waters. You look down at your plate and see only a few funky looking chicken fingers and French fries.... You think to yourself one day I will have that steak.
Fast forward a few years.
Your father finally allows you to order the steak. The waiter brings it out just as you remember. Sizzling hot, the smell of the meat filling the air. You slice the meat and take your first bite.... Your eyes roll into the back of your head as you savor the taste of a perfectly cooked piece of meat. You think to yourself... How can anything be better than this.
That is exactly how heady topper is.
As soon as you take your first sip .... You think how can another beer be better than this? And in my opinion.... It cannot be. This is the pinnacle of ipa's. HEADY IS THE KING. There is no higher.
I tasted it with Some fresh pliny the elder and there was No comparison. Heady topper is one of if not the best beer ever made.
