B-. Very good barrel taste and a caramel old ale character. Down graded, because no Belgian character. To be fair this was a 2015 consumed in 2018.

I admire the effort and creativity of this beer but the end product does not come together as a good combination. I guess the wheat just does not marry well with barrel aged taste for me.

Vanilla undertones, smooth and dark

Dark brown to black in color with a thin off white head and aromas of figs a belgian strong dark ale aged in oak barrels, flavors of figs at the forefront followed by woody vanilla flavors and a slight warming boozy finish. Complex but not overly sweet or rich. A little lighter on the body than what I would expect. A good sipping beer.

Belgian strong aged in oak barrels. Flavors of figs mellowed by vanilla. Complex but not overly sweet or rich. Deceptively NOT aged in bourbon barrels. Had at PP 4/27/13.

Excellent beer! Good aroma, an oaky malty smell. Definitely oak in flavor with medium notes of malt. Subtle hints of chocolate . Middle if the road carbonation. Not for the novice beer drinker.
