I am by no means an expert on Barleywine style ales but attempt to do this one justice with my review. My online search indicates that Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot ranks as a favorite among Barleywine Ale aficionados. At 90 IBUs and 9.6% ABV, this ultra-bitter brew has an intense hoppy character without the full IPA body and floral characters. A malty front end is followed up with an extreme Pacific Northwest hop bitterness that lingers well after the sip. I can really get into this style of brew.

A little bit too bitter for me currently. I think my bitterness reflex is blocking my palate from picking up the other flavor subtleties here. This is the 2012 vintage.

This is one of the best Barley wines. I wish it had a little less bitterness. I drink it a lot because of it's availability, price and overall good flavor.

Excellent barley wine !!! Best part of a long cold winter is awaiting the release of this beer ... Ages well also.

A tough one...the flavor is harsh and almost distasteful. The appealing sweet barleywine just makes it through, but the hop resins wreak havoc...Not the best balance.
