Being local this is one of my favorite scotch ales on tap. It is heavy as a scotch ale should be.

Overall this is a well made Scotch style, it definitely has a slight Belgian quality to it, noticeable in both the aroma and flavor. My guess is that this is a result of the yeast strain used. The flavor is well balanced between malt and a slight bitter bite from the hops. I prefer a Scotch or Scottish Style with a smoky flavor which this brew seems to be lacking. The aroma is much maltier without a real distinguishable hop smell. It also has a slight yeasty aroma which I typically associate with Belgian beers. The beer has a reddish brown color in a pint glass and has a slight head which lingers for a while. This head is probably caused by the light, steady carbonation which lingered throughout the entire 22 ounces of the beer. This is yet another fine beer by the great men and women of Boundary Bay Brewery, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a flavorful beer on the darker side.of the spectrum.
