Chocolate up front, boozy middle, sweet end, and a brief pause to a hint of ?spice?

A. Hazelnut, coffee and chocolate flavors in that order. Aged in bourbon barrels. A good balance, but the toasted hazelnut is strong, probably artificial. 12% bottled 1-26-22 and I tried it 6-14-22.

A-. 1-31-22 version was good with coffee and chocolate up front and a good bourbon aroma. Had some grain astringency and roasted coffee, but not off putting.

Dark and strong. Complicated flavors: chocolate coffee licorice........

Coffee, cocoa and bourbon notes. Alcohol content is very boozy and overwhelms flavor. I don?t see this rated so high. It ok

A. 2020 had great coffee aroma and flavor with enough chocolate and bourbon to be very good.

A guy at a beer store recommended this to me when I wasn?t wearing my glasses?what a shock when I got home to find the ABV @12.3 percent! Bourbon stout is not my preferred style of beer, and 12.3 is not my preferred ABV, but this is super flavorful and well done. The coffee and chocolate flavors are quite strong and tasty. The bourbon is there as well, but not so forward. Probably won?t have it again (one beer can bring on a hangover?) but I?m glad I tried it.

This is the only Founders stout that I like. Still, I?ll stick to my Ten Fidy.

Did a side by side of 2017,18&19. 17 had the most oaky Barrel flavors B+. 2018 was everyone?s favorite, most bourbon, but mellow and well balanced A. 2018 was heavy on a cold steep coffee flavor, which really cleaned the palate, the other two sort of lingered on the tongue B.
