I wouldn?t normally try an ale with 50 IBUs?but I like to try any Scottish style ale so I gave it a go. Pretty good the 7 blended malts smooth out the bitterness enough to enjoy its smoky malt flavor?.but not enough for me to add to my staple of ales. 3.5 stars.

poured dark red to brown with a small tan head . Smells of malt and coffee. Taste is coffee.

Strong scotch ale from Grand Rapids. Probably their most famous beer. Ruby ale with lots of flavors: malts, somewhat Smokey, and a bit of peat. For a beer with an attitude name, it?s pretty earnest and not a slighter.

Drank with dinner and was very satisfying.

A good but not great Scotch Ale. A bit of smoke, earthiness, and malt. I am not picking up a lot of the bitterness that other people are but that would not be a bad thing if it did. Pretty nicely balanced as well. There are a number of better Scotch Ales out there though for me to buy this again. But I can say I went, I tasted, and it was not bad.

Terrible. Let the cool kids drink it.

Super rich and malty, some smokiness. Just the right amount of hops. Quite nice!

Kinda bitter. Might be good with a steak but not great sipping beer.
