Hazy straw gold with almost Belgian lace type head. Malty, vanilla aromas. Little in the way of hops here. Medium full bodied with decent carbonation. Again, malty vanilla character dominates. Alcohol is also quite evident though not hot. It's an interesting experiment and I'm not sure I would do this again.

Wheaty, bourbony, very sour.

The oak (assuming a whiskey barrel by the taste) aging is very prevalent in this brew. Solid, yet a bit boozy- it is 11.5%. Overall it's a very good beer. The 9 ounce pour is just enough.

Not the Bert's fault, maybe. More of a barleywine than I like. This time had the 2012 at the Beer Shoppe and liked it a lot. Wish I could remember when I had it before, and whether it was the same vintage.

The wheat and bourbon notes really come through in the nose and on the palette. Full bodied and malty. Best when warmed to 50 degreesa in a snifter.

I did not pick up the coconut taste in the beer at all but did notice the hint of vanilla and caramel. They did a good job of giving this beer a slight bourbon taste by only aging 50% of the ale in bourbon barrels. Some bourbon barrel aged beer has too much bourbon or wood taste that can sometimes take away from the beer. This beer has the perfect mix!!!
