A beer that keeps on giving, this one really does it for me, even a year late. Pours like an imperial stout. Dense brown head that sticks to the glass. Aroma is hops first, rich malt, some chocolate. Taste comes in at least four waves. Hops hit you right away but roasted malt/chocolate/maybe anise takes over. Hops return with a vengeance at the finish before alcohol warms you up. Only thing lacking is subtlety. There is none. In your face from start to finish

Sort of spicy nutmeg? Normal ipa but more depth

I like hops but this is just too much. Really overwhelming.

Not super hoppy fairly typical black IPA

Excellent blend of a stout and an IPA. It's > 10% ABV so it will age and not spoil in the cellar. The tour guide at Stone told me the hops will fade as the beer ages and it will start to taste more like a straight up stout.

Exactly what an "Imperial Black IPA" should be. I didn't like it.
