I love a good wee heavy and this was pretty good. Pours a deep brown/black, but no retention in the head. Smells of rich malt and sweet toffee notes. The alcohol added quite a bit of kick, but doesn't take away from the sweet (maybe even too sweet) caramel flavour with smoked malt undertones. It's a pretty thick beer -- a bit syrupy -- but suited the style fine. I was surprisingly impressed by Sam Adams with this one.

Smoky malted flavor. Strong alcohol but no strong alcohol taste. Pretty smooth beer.

Great example of a wee heavy. Great flavor with a slight alcohol aftertaste.
