Rivals Stone's self righteous black IPA which is one of my all time favorites.

Pours jet black from the bottle into an IPA glass. Leaves a light, tightly-packed tan, one-to-two-finger head. Smell: white wine grapes, citrus, indiscriminate stone fruits; a touch of roasty/toasty malt. Taste: basically the same, but less white wine grape, more citrus and stone fruits, and the roasty malt aroma becomes like dark bitter chocolate. Amazingly less roasty than other commercial black IPAs. This is the BEST black IPA on the market. Period. Yes, it's better than Firestone Wookie Jack.

22JUN14, Bar on Buena, Chicago, IL Draft, tulip Pours very dark brown, with a tan head. Grassy and very earthy aroma. The malty flavors are well complimented by the earthy flavors. It's a very good black IPA. Finish is kind of dry with some bitter lingering. The bitter doesn't come through in the regular flavor, but it's prevalent in the finish. Quite nice though.

Good, dark, IPA. Lagunitas is the bomb. Never had anything from them that is subpar.

Really nice black IPA. Strong piney hops on the nose. Wet hop mouthfeel slightly roasty. Some bitterness lingers in the finish.

Even better on tap than in the bottle. But SOLID beer either way!

Smells like an arm pit. Not a favorite.

Thought it was going to be a stout. Should have known better with the laguintas label. Very bitter IPA. Not a favorite

Absolutely love this Black IPA. West Coast styled citrusy hopped ale with a perfectly balanced roast. Great stuff and on par with Firestone Walker Wookey Jack

A little disappointed. Grabbed it on a whim because I'd never seen it before. Was hoping for a stout, but it's a black IPA, and not very well suited to my taste. Overly bitter in that Lagunitas way, and lacking a malt backbone that could have saved it. Not a fan. Lagunitas needs to do something new and different because their brews are starting to all like different varieties of the same thing.
