Tart imperial stout with lots of licorice flavor and a nice roasted malt balance.

The licorice taste very noticeable and reasonably subtle in the beginning. However, the licorice flavor builds over the wife of the beer and ends up dominating far too much. The stout itself does not mellow the licorice flavor nearly enough.

Not their best, not their worst.

Too much sweet anise. Decent, but many better stouts.

Medium to light body, slight sweetness and coffee undertones; dark fruits taste, faint licorice; good snifter sipping potent brew

Slightly hoppy, licorice flavor not overwhelming.

Solid stout. Black with thick tan head that dissipates quickly. Licorice nose and in the taste along with chocolate sweetness and tinge of smoke. Fair mouthfeel. Good overall. Bottle, July 2015.
