Very solid barleywine, ready to drink now, dont bother aging. Smooth, syrupy. Not too challenging, would be a good introduction to the style. Yet remains a nice sipping beer for the old barleywine drinking crowd. In some ways the beer shares more characteristics with abbey ales such as Brother Thelonius, yet it does have that pungent hop and barley backbone that an abbey lacks.

Nice smooth flavor

Malty nose. Malt is prevalent, not as boozy as the 10.5% would suggest. Overall a good barleywine.

Caramel, slight sweetness; malty and boozy

Good barley wine. Tasty with a booze taste. Strong so should only have a few.

I'm a really big fan of barleywines so this is automatically going to get a higher grade. Flying dog remains to be a brewery that I WANT to love but am simply left unimpressed. Again, this is a four star beer for me but that's because of my style preferences.
