Extremely opaque dark brown that is very nearly black in color with a huge creamy three finger head that cascades from the nitro, eventually dissipating to a steady 1/4 inch rim of khaki head. Nice malty aromas of caramel, toffee, and molasses. Some subtle notes of nuts, coffee and chocolate.
Very smooth and creamy from the nitro with a caramel malty and toffee flavored backbone. The caramel is by far the most dominant flavor, with some chocolate and a dry finish. Flavors could be more complex and pronounced but definitely opened up as it got a little warmer. The aroma is much more complex than the flavors but enjoyable overall. Drinks pretty easy for a 7% ABV beer. Saranac definitely seems to be experimenting more and cresting some very interesting beers.
