08APR15, Against the Grain, Louisville, KY
Draft, chalice
Pours a hazy dark straw color with a half finger of thick white head that dissipates to a thick film. Has a very fruity aroma, with some good ripe melon (the melon comes from the bartender's description). There's a tiny hint of sour on the nose as a reminder that a bronster named Brett is lurking underneath. The flavor is sweet up front, with an acidity slicing through that sweetness to deliver a sour base. The sweet hop builds the next block of this pyramid, with the melon reappearing a a wedding cake topper, dancing back and forth with some tartness on top. The finish seems wet, but the tartness of the wedding cake topper dries up the tongue quite quickly, much like a wedding does to a bank account. Almost too dry. Definitely only want to get married once. More than one of this beer might be too dry for daily living. It's very enjoyable during the act of drinking, with a great front end, but the booty on this beer was bountiful and...there's no other 'b' word to describe my surprise. I even looked up synonyms for 'unexpected'.
After reassessment, and thorough embarrassment, my surprise has subsided. I would have a few more of this non-spore froth which is quite quaff...able. Okay that's enough. Jeez.
