Draft, chalice
Pours clear golden with over a finger of off-white head thy slowly dissipates to a moderate film. Aroma is grassy, but with some zesty citrus, too. Not quite lemony and not grapefruit, but definitely grassy. Flavor is is initially a sweet bitter. Not bittersweet, but a sweet bitterness. Or perhaps a balancedly bitter sweetness. There's a layer of bitterness married right up next to the sweetness from the hop profile. The grain and rye really help the two live cohabitatiously. This is really enjoyable. The flavor continues throughout, with bitter and sweet seamlessly trading places; not battling with each other, rather, right when there's almost too much bitterness, the sweetness takes over, and vice versa. This is truly fantastic. The finish is mostly dry, with a bitterness as the lasting characteristic, but it's actually welcomed in this instance. The mouthfeel is medium, with the carbonation seeming to escort the bitter and beer to your palate. This isn't instantly fantastic and smooth like a 3Floyds and some others. It takes some thinking to figure out why I love this. I wouldn't be able to do that while drunk. I still think I'd enjoy it, though.
Troy's response:
Those were, without out the smallest hint of doubt, the 2 greatest descriptions I have read in my life. Bravo sire. Bravo. It would appear the universal struggle between bitterness and sweetness truly engulfed your existence for the briefest of moments. To see you wax rhapsodic about "the layers of bitterness married right up next to the sweetness from the hop profile" is truly inspiring and nearly brought a quaint tear to my eye.
