DocJ - February 25, 2012Pours into a Darkness snifter an amber red with a nice khaki head that persists. Not a lot of lacing (4/5). Smell is predominantly citrus and malt with grapefruit pith overtones (4/5). Taste is grapefruit and pine bitterness with substantial malt backing lending a bit of welcome relief and subtle sweetness (4/5). This is a big DIPA. Bitterness lingers. The 11% ABV isn't noticeable...until it's too late. Mouthfeel, medium and the body holds together well (4/5). I enjoyed this one but the ABV really sneaks up on you. Overall (4/5). Will stick with little brother, Size 7, for routine imbibing.
