Advertised to be a large beer. Smell is massive malt, not much carbonation. Smooth taste very malty almost wine like. I don't taste very much of the hops, but can get a little citrus.

Crazy malty for a lager. I usually think of lagers as lighter. Even black lagers are lighter in flavor. Almost tastes like a lighter version of a barleywine. Big, smooth and boozy without any noticeable hops.

Still may favorite Doppelbock to date..loads of maltiness and fruit sweetness ..No bitterness or alcohol burn whatsoever..Awesome abv to back it up..Flawless...Say what u want about Sam Adams, that they sold out or are not a craft brewery, that's bullshit, it gems and rarities like this that show there legit players in the game.. 5 stars

Huge toasty malt presence, lots of caramel and deep toasted bread, with hints of chocolate. Definite warming alcohol presence. No discernible hop character, just enough bitterness to keep it in balance. Nice residual sweetness; dark/dried fruit aroma and flavor.
