Bought this on sale, for weekend 1 of College football, at Raley?s Octoberfest display because of these reviews and the bottle said it was a 400 year old recipe so presumably a more authentic German Octoberfest/Marzen. Enhhh. Mildly hoppy which is a good thing, less hops the better for this old dude, with a caramel malt flavor. But for my tastes Sam Adams and Gordon Biersch are far superior. 3.5 stars means I?ll drink it if offered and nothing I like better is available but I won?t buy it again. But at least I know what one authentic German Marzen is like.

Pretty good. Amber in color. Had a couple at Himmel Haus in Lake Tahoe

Pours amber with a small off white head. Scent is bread malt. Flavor is toasted bread malt and just a little hops. Good balance. Medium mouthfeel.

A fantastic Marzen - perfectly balanced. Bright copper color. First one went diwn very fast. Taking a second one to savor the flavor.

Good Oktoberfest. More complex flavor good caramel.
