Pleasant fusion of dark malts and the traditional elements of an IPA. Aspects of a Bock here.

Decent beer. First black ale I've had and it's good. Little bit of an after taste but smooth with a good body

Great black ipa love it

A middle of the round black ipa. Doesn't have the fullness that I would like nor the hop flavor you might expect. The dark malts miss the mark

Kinda dark might be good for fall

Bitter hops followed by dark maltiness. Very full, delicious head. Light mouthfeel, wouldn't mind something thicker (my only complaint). Nice balanced aftertaste of hops and malt. Pretty lacing. Really good overall.

Bold and black...

Pours black but not opaquely so from the bottle into a Dogfish Head IPA glass. A tight thin off white head forms. Good carbonation. Smell: a mix of roasted malts, alcohol, and herbal and grapefruit hops. Taste: much of the same, with a thick, satisfying mouthfeel that drinks more like an imperial stout than an imperial IPA with a roasty, malty finish. In that respect, this beer may be somewhat out of "style", but considering Black IPA/CDAs do not have their own category in the BJCP, I can let if slide. Overall: I really really like this beer for its mouthfeel, but the hops seem too dialed down. Needs more noticeable hop aromas and flavors rather than trying to blend them with the beers other flavor elements (malt, alcohol, etc.)

This IS a great tasting dark IPA. The hint of chocolate come late but it is very nice. Smooth and well balanced
