Homer's Beer Odyssey - December 15, 2014
APPEARANCE - Cloudy, 2-finger head that dissipates slowly. Light colored. Good lacing.
AROMA/SCENT - Hops, gruit, floral, sweet.
TASTE - Hops, sweet, citrus, apple. ABV somewhat hidden.
MOUTHFEEL/PALATE/TEXTURE - Good carbonation, drier than expected, light, effervescent, crisp, refreshing.
VALUE - $10 for a 12 oz. glass - not that bad for a specialty beer at a restaurant.
OVERALL/DRINKABILITY - Lacks the usual kick you get from Tripels. Surprisingly dry. Halfway between hard cider and an Imperial IPA.

Just ok. I like how they tried to add a tripel to an autumn style ale. Bravo on the attempt, Captain. Alas it falls short. Interesting flavors but not smooth at all. Keep trying these though.

Three of us shared a bomber and two of us dumped their share down the sink. Mixing apple flavors with an American tripel honestly isn't even a good idea on paper, so I would have been surprised if this had come out well. My first taste had pronounced cocktail sauce/horseradish notes and finished boozy and dry like a bad white wine. The spiciness of the yeast makes it kind of harsh to drink and I don't think it pairs well with the brandy barrel aging. The bottle compares this beer to "moms apple pie" but this is total bullshit. Also, the bottle doesn't say so, but this beer is 12% abv which is probably why it tastes more like a bad wine than a beer.

Hazy golden in color with a razor thin white head and pungent apple cider aromas. Also has a buttery note similar to oak casks. Surprisingly light with a caramel apple flavor that gives way to a dry white wine aftertaste, which I don't care for. Very syrupy. A good sipping and sharing beer.

Aged in brandy barrels, it's buttery and bitter with cidery notes. Good & strong!

Has a unique caramel flavor, smooth but also complex. It's a beer you want to share. Very different, but you can admire how we'll it was crafted.
